Celebrating Kids at Camp Imua Day
At Stable Road Foundation, we’ve always believed that making an impact starts in your own backyard. It’s exciting and rewarding to help out anywhere, but there’s something special about touching the lives of your neighbors in positive ways.
That’s why we’re so proud of our relationship with Imua Family Services, a nonprofit here on Maui that’s dedicated to giving all kids a chance to thrive. And when their executive director, Dean Wong (a real legend, by the way), asked us if we’d be interested in hosting a party here at Stable Road, we couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Imua works with kids of all ages and ability levels. This is one of the reasons I love them, because I happen to be the father of a young daughter with Williams Syndrome. I know how important it is for kids like her to feel included, appreciated, and celebrated—to feel like a fully embraced member of the community. Imua is great at this, so it was an honor to throw this party together.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day for it, either. The skies were clear, the sun was shining, and the Maui waves decided to take the day off so the kids could enjoy the water to the fullest. Whether they were riding banana boats and jetskis, or just splashing around in the shallows, it was a great opportunity to spend some quality time in the ocean.
Back on land, things were popping too. Some kids loved the bouncy castle, while others flocked to the foam machine. A few future Formula 1 drivers had fun driving kiddy-cars around the lawn. We had tons of snacks, a reasonable amount of pizza, and possibly too much ice cream (though who would complain about that?). It was about as close to a perfect afternoon as you can get.
The highlight, though, was the happiness you could see on the kids’ faces. They deserved this—to be accepted and embraced, to make new friends and memories. These kids work so hard and overcome so many challenges, and it was a real honor to spend time with them in this beautiful slice of paradise.
Our team at Stable Road Foundation is already looking forward to doing it again, stay tuned!
