Stable Road Foundation Celebrates Opening of New Sacred Hearts School
Sacred Hearts School had been a Maui community institution for over 100 years before it was destroyed by last year’s wildfires, leaving hundreds of students to study in makeshift facilities for much of the school year.
Stable Road Foundation, along with partners Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) and the County of Maui, stepped in to help the school rebuild—and now, the new campus is set to open just days before the 2024-2025 school year.
Founder Ed Freedman, along with GEM founder Michael Capponi, Mayor Richard Bissen, and other community leaders, attending a blessing ceremony on August 2 at the new site in Kaanapali. Freedman gave a talk about the healing power of community at the ceremony, which also featured traditional dances performed by students and prayers from Sacred Hearts clergy.
Stable Road Foundation donated $225,00 toward the construction of the new school, which will serve over 220 students in grades K-12. The campus features state-of-the-art classrooms, air conditioned bathrooms, sports facilities, and outdoor dining area, and many other amenities.
